Louisiana High School Speech League
Welcome to the Louisiana High School Speech League
Purpose
The LHSSL is dedicated to promoting speech and debate competition in secondary schools in Louisiana.
The league sanctions speech and debate tournaments throughout the school year, hosted by members or affiliates. View the Tournament Calendar or scroll through the calendar below to find LHSSL-related events.
The league also conducts a State Championship tournament in the Spring. Students from member schools qualify for the State Tournament of Champions by placing in the top three or four (depending on the event) or through an alternative process at a LHSSL sanctioned tournament. Specific rules for qualifying are outlined in the LHSSL Manual. Those and other downloads are available.
The league is open to any public, private, parochial, and independent school in Louisiana for students in Grades 9-12. See Membership for details.
